Facility Background

View Heights Convalescent Hospital is a psychiatric and behavioral facility. On a daily basis, you will be caring for and attending to the needs of persons who have mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorders. Due to the special need of our patient population, we seek to hire qualified, caring individuals who will contribute to our goal to serve our residents with dignity and compassion

Purpose of Your Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Administrator, Director of Nursing Services, Nurse Supervisor, Special Treatment Program Director and Consultants to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

General Responsibilities:

  1. Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility
  2. Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
  3. 3.    Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as may be requested.
  4. 4.    Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required.


Charting and Documentation

  1. Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
  2. Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
  3. Receive telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form.
  4. Transcribe physician’s orders to resident charts, medication cards, treatment/care plans, as required

Drug Administration Functions

  1. Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  2. Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
  3. Ensure that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another.
  4. Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
  5. Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies.
  6. Ensure that narcotic records are accurate for your shift.
  7. Notify the Nurse Supervisor of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift.


Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program.


Preferred 1-2 years’ experience

New grads are welcome.

Specific Requirements

  1. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN/LVN in this state.
  2. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  3. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  4. Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays

    Verifiable Employment References

    MUST pass pre-employment requirements i.e. background clearance, TB test, physical exam and drug screen.
